I have to say a big Thankyou to Pradeep Rajkumar, a long time subscriber and follower of 'iTaste' who introduced us to this place. Started in the year 1962, Ashok hotel is run by its 3 rd generation owners.
This place is situated in the Coimbatore road, check out its location from the Google Maps location link above

Though we went to this hotel's new building which was nearby, we preferred to have our lunch in the old building itself.

We ordered Mutton Biryani, mutton chukka, mutton kothukari, chicken fry, and mutton kola balls.

All the dishes were excellent here, The mutton biryani which was light and with excellent spice blend was a highlight. The mutton dishes like the mutton chukka and mutton kothukari were even better. The chicken fry spicy and excellent to taste. The kola balls too were amazing. This place is so good at mutton items. A good non-veg meal to enjoy and that you don't want to miss.

As the name sounds, the Bahubali Thali too looks enormous. You have to book a day before in case you plan to go to this place. The number is in the video or you can get their number from the google maps, link given above.

They ask you to pay an advance of 500 INR. The bahubali thali has 50 + items, there are many non-veg dishes in them too. 4 people are allowed to have the thali.

The bahubali thali starts off with chicken soup, starters, lemon juice which is given in a sexy bulb-like glass container, the main course like rice biryani.it includes both south Indian and north Indian dishes. In the end, they give icecreams and beedas too.
An excellent place to go with your friends and family to enjoy the dish. I personally liked all the dishes, but though I have tasted better dishes than this the bahubali thali of 50 + item is new, so I recommend you to try this place if you haven't tried.

The restaurant has a cozy interior, a good service but I personally wasn't happy with the biryani. both mutton biryani and chicken biryani was not at all satisfactory. For the cost, they charge the food isn't worth it. The pepper BBQ was great to taste, the only dish I felt was good. We had a chocolate brownie with ice cream which was really good.
Overall I feel that the dishes are overrated and they could improve the taste of their Biryani

This hotel is situated in karur. A good non-veg hotel with Chettinad flavors. If you are here don't have a second thought, choose the idiyappam with mutton leg paaya. That's the best dish here. You can also choose a starter like Sankara fish fry or nethili fry.
The rest of the main course like the mutton biryani or the chicken Kari dosa was just normal, nothing special to say about them.

Started in the year 1961 or 1963, Suguna Villas Hotel is a Gem to Tiruchengodu. The place is situated in the heart of the town. The google maps location will help you find the location correctly. There are a lot of non-veg dishes to choose from. They have chicken varieties, country chicken, mutton and fish.

Be it parotta or white rice, the best combination was mutton chukka varuval. Although I tried mutton intestine and mutton chops, this mutton varuval went so good with the parotta and white rice. The thick mutton gravy they provide has also to be mentioned coz it goes so well with the parotta and white rice.

Their parotta is soft and bigger in size than usual parottas that you see in other hotels.
Although there was mutton & chicken biryani, I did not find them interesting.
You have to come to this place for the parotta and mutton chukka, a true kongunadu flavor.

The restaurant is situated on the outskirts of Madurai, near to the airport. we were welcomed by a warm gesture. The ambiance is great. Well, its Madurai so food without mutton biryani is a sin, so we ordered mutton biryani, a non-veg meal place, mutton nalli roast, vanjaram fish fry and for the desserts, we had elaneer souffle.

The mutton biryani was good, the flavors and masala excellent, the only downside to it was the mutton pieces in the biryani had that goat smell on them
The non-veg meal plate came with gravies of mutton, chicken, and fish which tasted ok. The highlight was the KARUVAADU THOKKU which tasted so good and it went excellent along with rice. I asked them to bring some more of it which they happily did.
The Nalli roast was superb, very soft meat, the masala in the roast was enough to mix with rice and eat, an excellent dish.

The vanjaram fish fry was good too.

The elaneer souffle for desserts was the first time I'm having this, It was good but if there were coconut pieces all over the souffle it would have tasted better because I found the coconut pieces just on the top.
Their hospitality is definitely something I should comment on. There was a waiter standing nearby to take orders and bring what we wanted.
A must visit place with family or if your flying in or out of Madurai airport !!

A small shop that has been running for 61 years. They serve only breakfast, opening at 7 am and closing at 11 am. This eatery is situated in Natham, Dindigul district. Natham is situated in the center of Dindigul and Madurai. The Kaavanna parotta Kadai or the koorai Kadai is in the bazar street, so you have to ask around in order to reach the spot. The google maps shows you the exact location so using google maps will be useful.

The koorai kadai serves only poricha parota (oil parota), mutton chukka, mutton chops, and kuska. The poricha parota with the saalna was amazing . The parota was crunchy. The mutton chukka was soft and yummy.
There are no Tables or chair. There is a stone table like the olden days where you have to sit with legs folded.

Be at the place by 8 in the morning if you don't want to miss out on a dish and want everything hot.
This is the best hotel in Natham for non-veg breakfast, also one of the best nonveg hotels in Dindigul and Madurai

Sulthan hotel a family restaurant in Madurai, that serves excellent mutton biryani. The biryani tasted very good. The mutton pieces in the biryani were so soft and tender. So was the mutton brain fry which melts in your mouth. The mutton chukka though of less quantity the taste was fabulous.
The hotel has a separate family AC dining section. They don't serve meals on Sundays only biryani.

The Rooster fight or Seval sandai is held at Poolanvalasu, Aravakuruchi near karur. The event is held from pongal day for the next 5 consecutive days. People from all around come with their roosters for this event. Many hut-like structures is built in which the fight takes place. The roosters are checked by the doctors before the event. The contestant with his rooster should find a jockey or if he is trained to handle the rooster he can jockey himself. The knives are tied to the roosters leg.
The Rooster fight is a Tamil tradition. Encouraging events like this will result in farmers as well as people breeding Roosters to earn a extra income.

This is the first time I tried soup noodles form an original Chinese restaurant. They have a lot of sause options according to our liking. You can add more spiciness if you want to.

This Mess is situated in Madurai, ponmeni area. It was a little difficult to find the place with the help of google maps when you are near the destination, so watch out for the signboards. You have a lot of options to choose from. I tried the murattu single combo with 21 items. All the dishes tasted good.They have chicken, mutton, dry fish, crab, quail. It was a good dining experience. I did not have the chance to try their chicken/mutton Kari soru, which they said is the south Indian version of the Chinese fried rice. A friend suggested this place to me. He said the Biryani is good and they have many branches. So I thought to give it a try. At first, when I went to one of their branches, it was so crowded at the parcel counter. People were waiting to get parcels. There was chicken biryani, mutton biryani, pepper chicken, chicken palipalayam, and deep-fried dishes like chicken leg piece, lollipop, quail, etc., The biryani here is good for the price. Affordable biryani and the quantity was more too.The cost of chicken biryani is 70/ rs. They serve Biryani for lunch, as well as dinner. So if you are a biryani fan and you want good biryani at economical rates then this is the place for you.

This mess is situated on the outskirts of Karur, on the Karur to Salem highway. The place has a Dhaba style layout. The specialty in the afternoon here is the clay pot chicken biryani, aasari varuval, and chicken uppu Kari. There are mutton items too but I personally feel that the chicken dishes are way better. so if you are here for the afternoon don't miss the chicken biryani. It has got a lovely taste. For dinner, there are many options like naan, tandoori roti, etc. This is an excellent place for families.
