But I wasn’t leaving empty-handed. I ordered whatever they had — meals, small onion omelettes, and of course, kalakkis (because no Tamil meal is complete without some messy love 💛🍳). The Kochai Kari Kaatu Varuval showed up with swagger — well-spiced, perfectly cooked, and tasty. But honestly? I’ve had even better Kochai elsewhere (just saying, no offence, Chef 🧑🍳👀).
But hold your forks — the Sangagiri Naatukoli and Pallipalayam Chicken totally stole the show! 🔥 Spicy, juicy, and downright delicious. These country chickens came to the fight with more flavor than the Kochai! With all that meat teaming up with hot rice, my lunch turned into a proper love affair. 💘 Only downer? The Naatukoli Thanni Kulambu didn’t hit that emotional note. But hey, the Pachapuli Rasam came in like a tangy savior. 🥹💚 Verdict? A solid lunch. The biryani even came with a surprise Kesari sweet – and let me tell you, it was a nice sweet touch after all the spicy action. The mutton was juicy, the flavours were rich, and yes, I went for a second plate because the biryani was that good! No regrets. 😂 The mutton chops + egg combo? Total game changer. The nattukozhi idicha kari had a nice smoky, spicy punch. And the uppu kari? It blew my mind. Easily the best side dish of the day! Breakfast with friends - Idli, paratha and intestine curry - iTASTE
Now, kudal usually comes with a light, goaty smell. Acceptable. Expected. But this one? This was beyond goat. This was “I may have been sitting here since last week” kind of aroma. It gave off strong end-of-the-world buffet vibes. Honestly, I felt the kudal was on the verge of walking off the plate and filing a complaint against itself. I spared my viewers these juicy details in the video because I still want people to trust me. But no, I was not thrilled. And apparently, neither was my friend Anguraj, who took one for the team and bravely downed the kudal like a champ… only to later battle a mysterious stomach upset. Could it have been the food? Who knows. We’re not doctors. But the timing? Impeccable. Really makes you think. Maybe it was just bad luck. Or maybe the goat was getting revenge from the afterlife. Either way, we left that place with full plates and shattered dreams. So, the moral of the story? Ex - Military Man Runs Country Chicken Restaurant - iTaste
Stopped by this roadside gem in Namakkal — right on the highway! This place is all about that claypot country chicken craze… and of course, we had to taste it all! 😋
We started off with Naatukoli Chinthamani and Naatukoli Ingi Poondu... hmm, not bad, but didn’t blow our minds. But wait for it... the real heroes were the Naatukoli Thanni Kulambu and the Thick Kulambu – absolute soul food! 🤤🔥
Then came the stars from the sea – or maybe a nearby pond 🐟 – the Para Fish and Jelebi Fish. Tawa-fried to crispy perfection, though we felt the masalas could’ve done a little more dancing on our tongues. 💃🫣
But hold up… here’s the twist – Omlette Kuli Paniyaram! Yes, you read that right. It was crispy, fluffy, eggy magic in every bite! 🥚✨
Overall, it felt like a wholesome village-style feast straight from grandma's backyard kitchen! If you’re cruising along Namakkal highway with an empty stomach, this is one tasty pit stop you don’t wanna miss! 🚗🍴

Breakfast Before Backwaters – A French Toast Fiasco (in a good way!) So, we were in Kochi, and the kids suddenly decided they had a deep craving for continental breakfast — you know, the kind of breakfast that looks like art and vanishes in three bites. As luck would have it, a place called French Toast was just around the corner. Since we were anyway on our way to Alleppey (houseboat dreams, here we come!), we figured—why not fuel up in style? Now, we were a full gang — about 11 to 12 of us, including teens with bottomless appetites and adults pretending to be on a diet. So yeah, our order looked like a full-blown room service menu at a 5-star hotel. Naturally, the food took a bit of time to arrive. But when it did… oh boy. One by one, each plate landed on the table like a runway model. Stylish, gorgeous, intimidating even. For a moment we just stared at the food like it was a museum exhibit. Then, instinct took over. We tried: French omelette with cheese and sausages (soft, cheesy, and yum), Beef chili omelette (this one punched me in the tastebuds — in a good way), Herb-poached chicken sourdough sandwich (fancy name, solid flavour), Classic fish & chips (crispy and golden, just how Poseidon intended), Classic French toast (a sugary hug on a plate),
And a few other mysterious combo dishes from the menu that we ordered purely because they sounded cool. Verdict? Every dish was a win. True continental flavours, not just toast with attitude. Yes, the prices were a bit on the higher side… but hey, it’s continental! You’re not just paying for the food — you’re paying for the experience of pretending you're brunching in Paris while actually sweating in Kochi. 🏠🚢 Alleppey HouseBoat & 🚤 Thrilling Speed Boat Ride - iTASTE
We had booked a 4-bedroom full A/C houseboat—because if you're floating in luxury, might as well freeze like royalty. For the uninitiated: half A/C boats turn on the cool breeze only from 7 PM to 6 AM. But full A/C? That's 24/7 Arctic blast in both your room and the dining area. Totally worth the extra bucks (and frozen nose). Once we settled in, the boat began cruising and we were summoned for lunch. A homely Kerala-style meal awaited: crispy kari meen (fried fish that stared into our souls), veggies, salad, and rice. Nothing fancy—just good ol' comfort food with local charm. Around 4 PM, we made a pit stop—not for fuel, but for fish! Fresh crab, prawns, or whatever swam too close to the boat. Since we had already brought enough land meat, we just picked up some prawns for a crunchy treat later.
Then came a surprise detour: a massage island! Yes, a literal tiny island where your stress goes to die. For ₹2000, I got an hour-long full-body massage. My spine still sends thank-you notes to the therapist. By 5:30 PM, we docked at our night halt spot. Dinner was a dream: the beef was turned into a delicious dry fry, chicken transformed into Chicken 65, and chapatis + rice completed the ceremony. Michelin stars in my heart!
The next morning, breakfast was an all-South-Indian affair—fluffy idlis, crisp dosas, chutneys, and sambar. And yes, our leftover chicken was converted into a curry that made us want to miss our checkout on purpose. Before we left, the crew told us about a speedboat ride—₹300 per head for 10 minutes of heart-racing, selfie-screaming joy. Totally worth it! Wind in the hair, water in the eyes, and laughter in the air.
We returned to the boat with big smiles and bigger memories. Checkout came too soon, but we left with a camera full of photos and a belly full of joy.
The crew was super friendly, always ready to cook whatever we threw at them (not literally), and made the whole trip smooth and unforgettable. Only downside? The backwaters of God’s Own Country have way too many gods, I mean... houseboats.
